Your stay in Smoky Cove Cottage will be a vacation you will always cherish. This highland valley-mountain cottage is in a beautifully landscaped valley surrounded on 3 sides with pristine steep forested slopes. You’ll enjoy your time here all to yourselves. The property offers considerable privacy and quiet with extraordinary views, a place to experience nature at its finest. Wildlife abounds in the valley. You are welcome to feed the birds, rabbits, groundhogs, turkey, squirrel and fish in the pond or take a walk on the old logging trail. Listen to the 2 creeks and waterfalls trickling to the pond or be mesmerized by the multicolored hummingbirds. The light of the morning sunrise in the valley gives an almost spiritual element to the view of the Cowee Mountains. Your days at the cottage can be spent reading, writing or contemplating on the sun porch, viewing the high meadows blending to the mountains or sitting at the pergola watching the bass and koi feed in the pond. In the evening, you can admire the many thousands of fireflies just at dusk.
Smoky Cove Cottage is a wonderfully renovated green-tin roofed 106 year old farm house that features 3 bedrooms, 2 ½ bath with a Tuscany/antique décor. The sunroom opens the view to the gardens and pond, the valley and the mountains. A widescreen HD-TV and fireplace grace the living room for your evening’s entertainment. The huge kitchen with its center island and bar seating will be the center of your gatherings. Adjoining the kitchen is a bar area, dining area and office space. Your breakfast can be enjoyed on the outside table on the side deck followed by a dip in the hot tub. The master bedroom on the main floor is en-suite and includes a jetted tub in the bath and a queen sized bed. Upstairs the two other bedrooms each have a queen bed and share the upstairs bath. A red barn lays upslope that not only adds the authentic views but can be explored. It even includes an exercise area in the huge converted hay loft.
All this quiet and privacy on this 11 acre wilderness is just a short drive on a paved road to the Great Smoky Mountains Expressway giving you easy access to all the attractions of the area.
For the adventurous, you can tube on the Tuckasegee River in just a few minutes or spend the afternoon whitewater rafting and kayaking on the famous Nantahala River just a short drive away. Within the Smoky Mountain National Park, you can travel to an elk preserve, climb to Clingman’s Dome, and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hiking, fishing and mountain biking opportunities abound in the area. If so inclined, you can gamble at Harrah's Cherokee Casino, visit the Oconaluftee Indian Village/Museum just a few miles away or take the Smoky Mountain Railway train out of Bryson City. Shopping and dining at the small towns of Dillsboro, Bryson City and Sylva are just minutes away. The outdoor docu-drama “Unto These Hills” on the Cherokee Indian Reservation is a must see in the summertime. And, it's only an hour's trip to cultural Asheville for upscale shopping and a visit the Biltmore Estate, America’s largest home.
